Complex Regions in Topological Queries

چکیده
We describe a uniied framework for representing and manipulating binary topological relationships between complex regions, which are arbitrary compositions of homogeneous 2-dimensional surfaces, possibly with holes. Previously, compositions of regions and regions with holes were treated separately and in a restrictive scenario, where it is required that the composing regions should be disconnected. We point out that this restriction could lead to an anomaly in answering queries with topological constraints on composite regions in probably most GIS applications. In our framework, compositions of possibly connected regions with or without holes are allowed. Incorrect answers to topological queries involving complex regions are therefore avoided. Our work nicely extends the Egenhofer-Franzosa's model, originally developed for mod-eling binary topological relationships between simple regions.

Topological Queries in Spatial Databases
We study topological queries over two-dimensional spatial databases. First, we show that the topological properties of semialgebraic spatial regions can be completely specified using a classical finite structure, essentially the embedded planar graph of the region boundaries. This provides an invariant characterizing semi-algebraic regions up to homeomorphism. All topological queries on semialg...

Introduction: Graph theoretical analysis of functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) data has provided new measures of mapping human brain in vivo. Of all methods to measure the functional connectivity between regions, Linear Correlation (LC) calculation of activity time series of the brain regions as a linear measure is considered the most ubiquitous one. The strength of the dependence obl...
متن کاملModeling Spatial Relations and Operations with Partially Ordered Sets
Formal methods for the description of spatial relations can be based on mathematical theories of order. Subdivisions of land are represented as partially ordered sets (posets), a model that is general enough to answer spatial queries about inclusion and containment of spatial areas. After a brief introduction to the basic concepts of posets and lattices, their applications to modeling spatial r...
متن کاملRegion-Based Querz Languages for Spatial Databases in the Topological Data Model
We consider spatial databases in the topological data model, i.e., databases that consist of a finite number of labeled regions in the real plane. Such databases partition the plane further into elementary regions. We propose a first-order language, which uses elementary-region variables and label variables, to query spatial databases. All queries expressible in this first-order logic are topol...
متن کاملDeriving Topological Relationships Between Simple Regions with Holes
Topological relationships between objects in space are of great importance in many disciplines. Due to the lack of local topological information between components, i.e. faces, in the model of topological relationships between complex regions, recently, localized topological relationships have been defined for complex regions based on the relationships between simple regions with holes. However...
